Police ID Woman Found Dead Near Kaneland School

The woman was on the ground near a vehicle Wednesday morning. Here is her identity.

Police on Wednesday identified the woman who was found dead that morning north of Kaneland High School.

The woman is 57-year-old Joyce David of Elburn, according to a Kane County Sheriff's Department press release.

David was found near a crossover sports-utility vehicle that was pulled over on the side of Meredith Road north of Keslinger Road in unincorporated Kaneville Township, police said.

The SUV is a family vehicle, Lt. Pat Gengler said. It did not appear to have any visible damages to police.

A passerby called police Wednesday at about 7:30 a.m. to report the vehicle pulled over on the road. Deputies found David at the scene.

The initial investigation does not indicate any suspicion of foul play, but the actual cause of death will not be available until an autopsy is completed by the Kane County Coroner’s Office.

Police contacted Kaneland School District officials nearby and determined not to have a lockdown at the high school during the incident.

"Had we thought at any point there was a danger to the public, that would have been addressed ... the school locked down and school activities stopped," Lt. Pat Gengler told Patch in an e-mail. "I would have put information relating to potential danger out through the media."

The case remains under investigation.
