The names of those involved in the crash were not immediately available. The final incident report was not submitted as of late Monday evening.

How the Crash Happened

One of the students was driving the instruction car southbound on Western Avenue, Tyo said. The instructor was in the passenger seat and the other student was in the backseat.

Another car appeared to be tailgating the student car as they continued south on Western Avenue, Tyo said. The instructor, sitting in the passenger seat, instructed the student driver to pull over and let the other driver pass them.

When the student slowed down, the alleged tailgater did not slow down and rammed right into the back of the student car.

"The instructor reached up to hold the dash and did something to his shoulder," Tyo said.

The Top Driver vehicle sustained minor damage, but had to be towed away. The instructor was transported and the students could not drive it themselves because they only had learner's permits.

Batavia Police and Fire units were on the scene. Police stopped traffic on Western Avenue briefly, but the road was clear at 5 p.m. Monday.
