Two Dead, Two Injured In Tollway Crash Involving Naperville Man

Police said a Naperville driver went the wrong way on I-88, colliding with another car head-on. Two passengers are dead, and the drivers remain in serious condition at area hospitals.

A Naperville man is in serious condition at Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove after reportedly driving his car the wrong way on I-88 near Lisle Saturday night and colliding with another car, killing two and seriously injuring a third, Illinois State Police said.

According to State Police Master Sgt. Carlita Joe, the 43-year-old man was driving a red 2006 Porsche convertible eastbound in the westbound lanes near mile marker 130 around 6:28 p.m. when the crash occurred. He reportedly used an emergency turnaround lane to cross the median, according to police.

Two minutes earlier, police had received a call about a reckless driver on the Tollway, reportedly throwing money out of the car, Joe said.

The names of the drivers have not been released.

Two other vehicles—a white 2001 Ford Windstar and a gray 2012 Mazda station wagon—were involved in the crash, but occupants of those cars were not injured, Joe said.

State Police are investigating the crash, and it is not yet known whether alcohol or drugs were involved, Joe said. Police expect to have more updates later.
