Nov. 25: Police arrested two people for driving under the influence of alcohol during a two-week enforcement period and traffic safety campaign.

Police also issued a warrant arrest, and citations were issued for 37 safety belt violations, seven for speeding, 11 for other violations, as well as 34 warnings for various violations.

The safety campaign was done in cooperation with, and funded by, the Illinois Department of Transportation. This initiative, which included the heavy travel period during the week of Thanksgiving, is part of a statewide program to reduce the number of traffic fatalities.

Nov. 12: Jesus F. Olvera-Carrion, 51, of the 1500 block of Riverside Avenue, was charged at 2:03 a.m. at North 7th and Cedar avenues, with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol concentration greater than .08, driving without lights when required and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.

Olvera-Carrion refused to submit to a chemical test, and an assistant state’s attorney authorized a search warrant, which was signed by a judge and executed at the station. Police said Olvera-Carrion’s blood-alcohol level was .104. He was issued a notice of summary license suspension and was released pending a Dec. 19 appearance in court.
