Teen Struck, Killed by Freight Train in Kane Co.

A 14-year-old Kane County boy is dead after a train hit him in Maple Park Saturday night.

Parker Wolfsmith, 14, of Maple Park, was struck just before 10 p.m., according to Kane County Coroner's Office press release. The Coroner's Office responded to the accident, which happened on the railroad tracks at Main Street and Liberty Road in Maple Park.

Wolfsmith was pronounced dead at 10:01 p.m.

It's believed the death of the Kaneland Harter Middle School student was an accident, according to the Daily Herald. Wolfsmith was struck by a freight train, which had three locomotives and was traveling from Wyoming to Joliet, according to the article.

Wolfsmith’s cause of death is blunt force trauma to the head, the coroner's office reported Monday. Toxicology samples were drawn and sent to a forensic lab for testing.

The Kane County Coroner’s Office is cooperating with all police and fire in this ongoing investigation.
