OMG PD: Naughty Speeder, Shoplifting Spree

Here's a round-up of recent and bizarre police report items from the area.

NAPERVILLE

Speed, in the Name of Love

A Naperville man caught speeding last April, hoping to have sex with a woman he liked, pleaded guilty Thursday to reckless driving, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Zachary Pierce Ramirez, 21, of the 1400 block of Fairway Drive, was arrested at 2:08 a.m. April 21, 2012 at Oswego and River roads after being caught driving 111 mph in a 45-mph zone, police reports said.

A story in the Daily Herald on April 27, 2012 said Ramirez was in a hurry because he was hoping to have sex with a girl he liked. He was driving about 104 mph near the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve and another speed check determined he was going 111 mph.

Police said Ramirez also had cannabis in his possession at the time of his arrest. He was ordered to spend five days in a sheriff's work program as well as a random drug testing, according to the Chicago Tribune.

GENEVA

FYI: Running From Police Won't Help

Gregory P. Meehan, 25, of the 300 block of Colonial Circle, Geneva, was charged at 10:21 p.m. Jan. 18 at Meijer, 855 S. Randall Road, with retail theft. According to police, Meehan attempted to leave Meijer with 40 miscellaneous grocery items valued at $223.31. Initially, he complied with a loss-prevention officer at the store, but then left. He was running east in the parking lot east of Randall Road when police located and arrested him. He was released on his own recognizance pending a Feb. 21, 2013, court appearance.

Smash, Grab and Go

Police said a vehicle was burglarized between noon and 12:30 p.m. Jan. 18 while it was parked at the Spring Avenue Recreational Center, 185 Spring Ave. A purse was left on the passenger seat of a locked vehicle in the parking lot. The passenger side window was broken and the purse was stolen.

Mailbox Mauled

A mailbox and its post were damaged when someone hit it in the 800 block of Glenbard Road. The incident took place between 7:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. Jan. 15, police said.

ST. CHARLES

Cell Phone Shoplifting Spree

Ivan Espinal, 20, of the 1100 block of Oak Street, West Chicago, was arrested at 10:41 a.m. Jan. 15 at , on charges of retail theft, and burglary. Police were called to the store at 10:05 a.m. where police said he had been caught leaving the store without paying for three cellphones. Furthermore, Super Target’s loss-prevention personnel told officers the store has video from Jan. 4, Jan. 9 and Jan. 10, in which Espinal was recorded taking a total of five cellphones by cutting open the boxes, removing the devices and leaving without paying. He was being held in the Kane County Jail pending a court appearance.

Too Cheap to Get the Sticker?

Raymond Bruce Barnes Jr., 32, of the 200 block of Tyler Road, was charged at 3:06 a.m. Jan. 20 at 900 Dean St., with retail theft-less than $500, and unlawful possession of a stolen registration sticker. Police stopped Barnes, who was driving a Jeep Cherokee, because the vehicle displayed a current license sticker but a license plate that the Law Enforcement Agencies Data System, or LEADS, showed was expired.

Barnes told police that a buddy put the sticker on because his had expired. But after his arrest, Barnes told police he had stolen the sticker from a vehicle on Ronzheimer Avenue between 7th and 12th avenues, the police report stated. Barnes was being held in the Kane County Jail pending a court appearance.
