Shooting Update: Suspects Wanted 'Item,' Have Connection To Men Shot

The two men shot are still at the hospital. Here's the full update.

Police on Wednesday released a possible motive for the Tuesday shooting and home invasion of two men in North Aurora.

"Detectives believe that the motive for this crime was theft of an item," a North Aurora Police Department statement said. "It is also believed that the suspects have a connection to the victims, either direct or indirect."

The two suspects went to the apartment of the two men, ages 22 and 23, and demanded they hand over an item. The item was not specified in the police statement. When asked by Batavia Patch, Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki said he couldn't say what the item was at this time.

The suspects eventually shot the two men and fled the apartment, located on the 100 block of South River Road near the Fox River. The two men were in fair condition as of Wednesday morning at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, the statement said.

Details of Home Invasion

On Tuesday at about 7 a.m., there was a knock at the door of the men's apartment. The 22-year-old man answered the door.

Once the door was open, one of the suspects pointed a gun at him and demanded to be given an item that they were looking for. The 22-year-old ran to a bedroom where the 23-year-old man and his girlfriend were sleeping, while the offenders ransacked the apartment.

The suspect with the gun then shot the 22-year-old man in the arm and the 23-year-old male in the arm and chest. The suspects left the apartment in an unknown direction.
