UPDATE: Kane County Man Dies After Experimental Plane Crash on Sunday

The 69-year old Hampshire resident was the sole occupant of the plane. Here's what we know.

A 69-year old Kane County man is dead after an experimental plane crash at an airport near Elgin, the Kane County Sheriff's Office announced Sunday.

Frank J. Kehoe of the 45W500 block of Plane Road, Hampshire, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Kane Co. Sheriff's deputies at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday responded to the crash, which occurred at Olson Airport, 9N776 Kendall Rd., in unincorporated Plato Township.

The plan was a single-engine experimental airplane. It appeared that the plane was attempting to take off, according to an initial investigation.

For an unknown reason, the plane crashed on the airport property. Olson Airport is a small, private airport.

The plane ended up on its roof at the crash scene, the Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The only apparent injury from the crash was to Kehoe, the sole occupant of the plane, Kane County Lt. Pat Gengler said in an online message.

It was not known where Kehoe was going at the time of the crash. Kehoe was an experienced pilot, according to the Sheriff's Office.

This incident remains under investigation.

This is the second reported fatal crash involving an experimental plane in four months in Kane County.

On July 31, John Morrison, 73, of Aurora died at the scene of a plane crash in Big Rock Township.

Morrison was flying a small experimental plane and had just taken off from Aurora Airport, according to a Sheriff's Office investigation. To read more about this July incident, click .
