Sheriff: Male Stranger Approaches Girl Near Sugar Grove

The incident happened on Monday afternoon. Here's what we know.

A 9-year-old girl was approached Monday near Sugar Grove by a man she did not know, police said.

The incident happened at about 4:50 p.m. on Monday in the Prestbury subdivision, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.

The man pulled up near the girl at Walnut Circle and North Buckingham in unincorporated Sugar Grove Township. He drove a mid-sized white pickup truck, according to a press release.

The girl was skateboarding when the man told her to get into the truck. She was not able to give a description of the driver, the release said, but she did think the man appeared to be alone.

The girl immediately went home and told her parents, who called the Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies checked the area, but they were not able to locate any pickup trucks matching the description. The Sheriff’s Office received no additional calls of this nature.

Description of the Truck

Here's what the truck in this incident looked like:

  • Midsized white pickup truck
  • Silver tool box in truck bed
  • Truck had black letters on the side and tailgate
  • Illinois license plate, last letter might have been an "S"

The Sheriff's Office want to remind parents of the following:

  • Talk to your children about stranger danger
  • Report these events as soon as they happen
  • Know where your children are at all times

Similar Mill Creek Incident

The Sheriff's Office reported a similar incident that took place in Mill Creek on Nov. 7, 2011. During that incident, an 8-year-old girl was approached by a man she did not know in a white, four-door pickup truck.

The incidents are similar, but there is no official connection between the two events.
