Sheriff: Mailbox Explodes Outside Post Office

Deputies arrived to find a blown-up mailbox in the southwest part of the county. There are no suspects so far.

A mailbox in western Kane County somehow exploded over the weekend, according to the Kane Co. Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies responded at 5:10 a.m. on Aug. 5 for a blown-up metal postal mailbox outside the Big Rock Post Office, 100 E. First St. in Big Rock, according to a press release.

The mailbox was not physically attached to the post office, and there was no damage to any structures. The deputies and postal authorities collected the mail that was inside the drop box.

The Sheriff’s Office does not have any suspect information and have received no other reports similar to this incident. Sheriff’s Detectives and Postal Authorities continue to investigate the matter.
