SHERIFF: Driver of Route 31 Crash is Max J. Dobner, 19, of Aurora

Dobner drove a Chrysler Cirrus into a home off of Route 31 on Tuesday afternoon. He was later pronounced dead. No one else was hurt in the incident.

Max J. Dobner of Aurora was the driver of the car that smashed into a home Tuesday off of Route 31 in Batavia Township, the Kane County Sheriff's Office confirmed Tuesday evening.

As of Tuesday night, the crash is still under investigation. Sheriff's deputies responded to the crash at 4:16 p.m. Tuesday, June 14, according to a press release.

The initial investigation reveals that Dobner on Tuesday was driving a 1999 Chrysler Cirrus east on Mooseheart Road and failed to stop at the intersection with Route 31.

The Cirrus left the roadway east of Route 31 and crashed into a home east of the Mooseheart and Route 31 intersection. None of the residents were injured, but damage to the house was extensive.

Before hitting the tree, the car struck a retaining wall and a tree before landing inside the home at 375 N. Lincolnway. The car went airborne after it hit the retaining wall and stripped a limb off a tree in front of the house, said North Aurora Police Chief Steve Miller at the scene.

Dobner was the only person in the car that hit the house. He was transported to Provena Mercy Hospital in Aurora and later pronounced deceased. An autopsy is scheduled for June 16, according to the press release.

Witnesses to the crash reported that speed appeared to be a factor, but the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team is continuing its investigation of the crash.

Miller said eyewitnesses estimated the car was going between 75 and 80 miles per hour down Mooseheart Road.

Kane County deputies were assisted at the scene by the North Aurora and and , as well as the Kane County Office of Emergency Management.
