Woman Crashes Into Utility Pole Head-On Along Route 31 Sunday

A West Chicago woman was transported after she hit a wooden utility pole head on Sunday evening along Route 31, police said.

The crash occurred on Route 31 north of the Mooseheart campus and south of Millview Drive in Batavia. Police, fire and the Kane Co. Sheriff's Office were dispatched the scene at 6:16 p.m., Batavia Sgt. Mike Johnson said.

The woman was headed northbound in her vehicle when she suddenly veered off the roadway and hit a pole, according to police. Airbags were deployed.

"The car is likely going to be a total loss — she hit the pole 40-45 miles (per hour) head on," Johnson said.

The woman had two children in the car at the time of the crash, but they were unharmed, he said. The father of the children came to the scene while Batavia police were there to take them home.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear. Road conditions were good, police said.

"(She told) the Kane County officer that she wasn't feeling well before the crash," Johnson said.

The woman's vehicle was towed from the scene. Route 31 was closed north of Mooseheart and at Millview Drive for about 40 minutes immediately following the crash.
