Expect increased traffic and some delays if you're traveling through Batavia on Thanksgiving morning.
The Fox and Turkey races will be held Thursday morning in Batavia, which will require Houston Street to be closed to vehicle traffic from North Island Avenue to Route 31 (North Batavia Avenue) in the downtown business district.
This is an open-road race with about 2,400 runners registered for the event. It includes a one-mile youth run that begins at 7:30 a.m. and a four-mile adult race that starts at 8:15 a.m.
Police officers will stop vehicle traffic intermittently to allow runners safe passage across Route 31/Houston Street. Runners continue through residential areas in the northwest part of Batavia, which includes crossings at McKee Street and North Van Nortwick at various points.
The races are expected to conclude by 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013.
"Motorists: Please use caution and be on the lookout for runners during these time frames," Batavia Deputy Chief of Police Glenn Autenrieth said in a press release.
