Police Await Inquest into New Year's Eve Crash that Killed a St. Charles Woman

A St. Charles woman died early Saturday morning after her car struck a utility pole in Campton Hills.

Police said the driver, Julie E. Berls, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-car crash in the 39W800 block of Campton Hills Road.

Campton Hills police are waiting for a Kane County Coroner's inquest to learn what caused the weekend crash, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

Sometime before 4 a.m. Saturday, Berls' 2002 Saturn was westbound on Campton Hills Road when it left the road and hit the utility pole. Extrication was required to remove Berls from the badly damaged car.

Berls was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident occurred, according to police. She was the only person in the car.
