Regional Police Report: Skeletal Remains in Home Identified

The following police-related items were pulled from area Patches. An arrest is merely an accusation, not a determination of guilt.

Skeletal Remains Found in House Identified

The skeletal remains found in an unincorporated McHenry home in November have been identified as Jacqueline R. Schaefer, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. 

Schaefer, 45, had lived at 518 Country Club Road where her remains were found on Nov. 6, according to the news release.  William Ross, 62, who owned the Country Club Road residence, was arrested on Nov. 7 and charged with concealment of a homicidal death, according to the news release. 

Ross is next expected in court on Feb. 14, 2014 for a status hearing in Nevada and his bond has been set at $100,000.

Schaefer's remains were originally discovered on Nov. 6 after a caretaker found the remains inside the home and called police.

Carjacking Spree Ends With Death of 11-Year-Old

A Geneva woman was one of the victims of a 34-year-old man whose reckless, high-speed carjacking spree included a crash that killed an 11-year-old boy on Chicago's South Side.

The Geneva woman was in a Honda Accord, the third vehicle carjacked by Rockie Douglas, who was captured Tuesday at a drive-through window of a Milwaukee McDonald's.

Douglas is accused of carjacking three vehicles over the weekend.

The first carjacking took place at around 11:20 a.m. Friday on Chicago's North Side, when Douglas forced a woman out of a green Dodge minivan at a gas station along West Irving Park Road, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Carpentersville Teen Dies While Removing Snow

Stephanie Siers, 19, of Carpentersville, died Sunday after falling off the back of a truck while working to remove snow in Oak Brook, the Northwest Herald reports. The accident occurred at about 1 p.m. Dec. 22, near 22nd Street and Clearwater Drive.

Siers was working as a contractor hired to remove snow and ice for an Oak Brook business. After falling, the teen was unresponsive. She was transported to Elmhurst Hospital, where she later died. The driver of the truck, who reported the accident and remained on the scene, was not charged, the Northwest Herald reports. 

According to Siers' Facebook page, she attended Dundee-Crown High School and was most recently attending Elgin Community College.

Man Killed by Falling Concrete at Hawthorn Mall

A 25-year-old Palos Park man was killed by falling concrete Thursday night at the site of a future restaurant at Hawthorn Mall.

The man was part of a demolition crew that was removing an outer layer of brick from an exterior wall of the structure when concrete pieces fell from the top of the wall, Vernon Hills Police said.

Police were called at about 11 p.m. Thursday. Three members of the crew were struck by falling concrete. The restaurant site is adjacent to the southwest entrance to the mall.

Two of the men hit by concrete were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center for injuries.
