POLICE: Batavia Man, 19, Faces Burglary Charges in Golf Course Break-In

A Batavia man faces multiple burglary charges after police were called to investigate an alarm at a golf course clubhouse early Wednesday morning.

Taylor B. Erickson, 19, of the 700 block of Walnut Street in Batavia, was charged with two counts of burglary and one count of possession of burglary tools in connection with the incident, St. Charles Police said in a press release.

A Kane County judge set Erickson's bail Wednesday at $15,000, according to court records. To be released, he or someone else must post 10 percent, or $1,500, plus a $46 processing fee.

St. Charles police were called to the Pottawatomie Golf Course clubhouse at 1:36 a.m. Wednesday. The first officer to arrive found that someone had broken into the building, cut a hole into the drywall, and left tools at the scene, the press release said. Someone had also entered the pool area.

More officers were called in to help search the building and the surrounding area. Officers searching an area north of the building found footprints, the release said. That discovery sparked a request for a Kane County Sheriff’s K-9 team to assist in the search.

Police Discover Man

As officers followed the footprints, another officer on the outer perimeter of the search area saw a male walk out of a wooded area north of the golf course and enter a vehicle parked on North 2nd Avenue. The man then drove away, police said.

Officers stopped the vehicle on North 3rd Avenue and the driver was identified as Erickson. He was taken into custody without incident at about 2 a.m. Wednesday to the St. Charles Police Department Detention Facility.

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the burglary charges, and Erickson was taken to the Kane County Correctional Facility to await bond call, authorities said.

The burglary charges are a Class 2 felony and the burglary tools possession charge is a Class 4 felony. If convicted of any burglary charge, Erickson faces up to seven years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines in the current state statute.

Erickson remains in the Kane County Jail this Thursday morning. A status hearing for this case is scheduled for Sept. 26, according to court records.
