Potential Shoplifters Leave Cart With $1,000 in Merchandise
Thefts Roundup: $500 in pre-cut firewood taken.
Maybe they teach this tactic in Theft 101: "If spotted or confronted, leave the cart and walk away." For the second week in a row, the Batavia police blotter includes a case in which potential shoplifters left a cart full of merchandise after they suspect they've been had.
This and other thefts from the week prior to Nov. 25 are as follows:
Abandon Cart!
An employee of Wal-Mart told police that a Hispanic couple left the store with $1,030 in merchandise in their cart, but when confronted, the couple left the items and fled the scene. The incident took place at Wal-Mart, 801 N. Randall Road, and the report was filed at 12:35 a.m. Nov. 22.

Theft at Kohl's
A retail theft was reported at 12:24 p.m. Nov. 18 at Kohl’s 251 N. Randall Road. The report was incomplete and no further information available.

Someone took about $500 worth of pre-cut firewood from property in the 400 block of Pine Street, according to a report filed at 3:39 p.m. Nov. 23.
Garbage Can Gone
Someone took a garbage can from the front of a residence in the 2000 block of Anderson Drive, according to a report filed at 1 p.m. Nov. 19. The theft was in the category of “under $500,” but the value of the can was not reported.
