OMG PD: Drivers Duel, Chump Check, Thirsty Thieves

Here's a round-up of recent and bizarre police report items from the area.

ST. CHARLES

Crooked Check For Chairs

A 62-year-old woman of the 700 block of Monroe Avenue in St. Charles reported at 3:08 p.m. Oct. 10 that someone used a fraudulent check to attempt to purchase some chairs she attempted to sell on Craigslist. The buyer agreed to sell the chairs for $325. She was sent a check for $3,050, with instructions to deposit the check in her account. Then she was supposed to send a check for the balance, minus $120 for her trouble, via Western Union to a person in Indianapolis.

The woman told police she believed something was not right and took the check to a Bank of America branch on which the check was drawn. She learned there were no Bank of America branches in Utah, where the check reportedly originated. She took the check to police.

Richard Frederick Foster, 22, of the 6N400 block of Route 31, was charged with the following on Oct. 6:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol
  • Aggravated DUI-revoked or suspended license
  • Aggravated DUI-no insurance
  • Possession of cannabis-30 to 500 grams
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle
  • Improper lane use
  • Driving without headlights
  • Driving on a revoked/suspended license
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia

Police pulled Foster over after seeing him drive without his headlights turned on in the 1500 block of West Main Street. Foster tried to run away from the officer who arrested him. He was transported to the Kane County Jail to await a court hearing.

GLEN ELLYN

Thief Thirsty For Champagne

The Dominick's at 880 Roosevelt Road got taken twice in one week for some pricey alcohol. Someone at the store reported liquor theft at 1:23 p.m. Sept. 30. The thief or thieves stole several bottles of wine and champagne at an estimated loss of about $303. Then a Dominick's employee reported another retail theft at 9:43 p.m. on Oct. 5. Three bottles of wine were taken from the store in the incident.

GENEVA

Scary Steals

Denise's Adornments, 221 S. Third St., reported two thefts in as many days. Someone took spider crystal earrings valued at $25 between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Oct. 4. Someone took two pumpkins worth about $30 between 8 p.m. Oct. 2 and 9 a.m. Oct. 3. The pumpkins were placed outside the business between the entrance and the sidewalk.

BATAVIA

Hammer Time

Two male drivers got into a verbal dispute that turned physical Sept. 28 on Batavia's east side. A 65-year-old from Smithfield, NC, grabbed a 49-year-driver from New Hope, AL, by the neck. The New Hope man later approached the Smithfield man "in a threatening manner," which resulted in the Smithfield man hitting the other man's thumb with a hammer, according to a police report.

Paramedics were contacted and the New Hope man was transported to the hospital due to possible injury to his thumb. Police on the scene at 3:08 p.m. determined the two to be mutual combatants. The men were each referred to the State's Attorney's Office.

Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. If you or a family member are charged or cited and the case is subsequently adjudicated, we encourage you to notify the editor. We will verify and report the outcome.

There is nothing to fear, but the Care Bear himself. Who cares if these perps are purple male lesbians from mars?? You're a paranoid and insecure racist yourself.

Care Bear, I can understand your view point. Many times minorities photo mug shot are shown in the patch and sometimes are not. The photos on this article will show up but the patch probably doesn't have them now. I don't know if the Patch will respond on the discrepancy but I do know that there have been some that were white that later showed up when, I am assuming, the Patch received the image. I am sorry that this happens with minorities and I do know that there are many times cars pulled over on major roadways in Elmhurst that are driven by minorities. I don't know if the police target out of town cars but I do know that in some states (if not all states) the out of state cars traveling threw are targeted with citations. I personally experienced this in Arizona over a decade ago. It was a ticket trap area and all the Arizona cars were allowed to continue without being stopped. As soon as I drove threw they ticketed me. It was a very large fine and my father told me not to pay it as they were using trickery to feed their municipality.

I think it is reverse discrimination, the refugees flooding into our country from 3rd world mexico and the blacks from sub sahara africa have made the white man an endangered species, soon to be extinct here in illinois. Care bear would like to point out a predominately european suburb and cry for affirmative action. The gays and lesbians do that too. If its a well to do quiet squeaky clean neighborhood, before you know it you're in the cross hairs of the barbarian hordes that collapsed the roman empire and once sacked rome.

So many thoughts, here. The biggest one is that one someone lashes out, it is fear based. Fear for self or others safety. Then comes some anger, maybe alot, depending on how often this person or groups safety has been at risk. 3rd comes how to protect self and others. Once that is established, most want to rectify or fix problem. This is where most don't know what to do and cycle starts over again. It is viscous, stifling and adds to frustration. Thanks to those taking initiative to work on issues. Change can be awful and slow. But don't give up. Ask questions without the nastiness. Be gentle. Most people are trying.

I went to the Farmers' Market on River St. this Saturday and was very impressed. It looks so nice onRead More the newly refurbished River St. Had some gelato at the new restaurant O' Sole Mio and it was very good. Love the new location for the Farmers' Market! Downtown Batavia is Rockin!

My schildren were asked to take this survey and both did. If the school board wanted an accurate andRead More fair assesment on what is going on at the school the would have eliminated the students name at the top. How many highschoolers do they really think were going to admit to using alcohol of drugs with their name embossed right on top?
Jeff Johns June 7, 2013 at 08:47 pm
A survey.....A survey with the student's name in on it asking them to admit to illegal activity?????Read More How can school administrators approve this before it was implemented. The trust that students have with their teachers and counselors has been breached and this has turned into a farce. (This reminds me of my fifth grade PE teacher who had me and over 60 of my classmates right certain letters on paper taped on the bathroom wall when someone wrote 4 LETTER WORDS above the urinals. No ones writing matched. Don't figure) Although there are many students that could benefit from counseling or intervention thinking that they would come forward through a piece of paper is....well, not smart. I attended public schools my whole life and never heard of anything like this. I compliment the teachers and counselors at BHS for the outstanding education my child has received. Constitutional rights or not this was just wrong. I support and thank the teacher for conveying this to the students. How many other teachers were put in an ackward position instructing there students to take the survey? How many reviewed this with there department heads and principals? This is being hushed by 101. Administrators and School Board, you need more communication with your teachers and potential implications to students. Very Embarassing....

This entire ordeal has made national news and consequently, the Batavia USD 101 looks ridiculous -Read More at best - downright evil at worst. It was on the Drudge Report and went viral on-line: http://chicagolampoon.blogspot.com/2013/06/batavia-usd-101-educrats-piss-on-us.html Thanks for the info as to the 1 intellectually honest board member, Jon Gaspar - the rest can't really be considered real Americans.
