Batavia Police: Cannabis Tales On The Road

Mom Will Find Out I

An officer stopped a vehicle at 7:22 p.m. in the parking lot of a business on the 100 block of South Randall Road. The officer was following up on a complaint of a suspicious vehicle. The driver, a 16-year-old girl from Batavia, admitted to having a small amount of cannabis and some paraphernalia in the vehicle during the traffic stop.

The girl showed no signs of impairment and no charges were pursued. The girl's mother was contacted. She came to the scene to take custody of the car and her daughter.

The Smell Gives It Away

An officer noted a strong odor of cannabis during a traffic stop at 8:40 p.m. at South Randall Road and Main Street. The driver of the vehicle, Mirely Sanchez, 18, of the first block of Margaret Lane, Aurora, admitted to having cannabis in her vehicle. A subsequent search found a jar containing a leafy green substance and several items of drug paraphernalia.

Sanchez was taken into custody and processed at the Batavia Police Department, 100 N. Island Ave. Sanchez was charged with unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of cannabis. She posted $150 bond and was released with a Nov. 13 court date.

FRIDAY, OCT. 26

A 14-year-old boy returned to the property of a business on the 100 block of North Batavia Avenue after being told not to return. An officer located the boy at 3:21 p.m. and issued him a trespass warning. His mother was contacted.

SATURDAY, OCT. 20

Traffic Stop Discovery

A 22-year-old Addison resident is headed to court after a traffic stop on Batavia's east side. Moises E. Cruz, of the 200 block of East Oak Street, was issued a state citation related to no valid driver’s license, police said. The stop was made at 11:51 p.m. on the 1100 block of North Kirk Road. A complaint was also issued for unlawful possession of cannabis, according to police. Cruz was issued a notice to appear with a court date of Nov. 13.

TUESDAY, OCT. 16

Mom Will Find Out II

A juvenile was charged with unlawful possession of cannabis, less than 2.5 grams, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia at 2:32 p.m. at Midway Drive and Mt. Vernon Place. The juvenile was released to a parent at the police department.
