POLICE: Phone Scam Targets Riverain Apartments in Batavia

Riverain has not authorized anyone to accept donations on their behalf.

The wants citizens to question phone calls they receive soliciting donations, even if they are for local groups or entities.

An unknown caller attempted to solicit a donation from a resident for a Christmas party at the , 200 N. Island Ave. The concerned resident contacted police, and the police notified the media on Friday afternoon about the incident.

Police contacted Riverain, also spelled as River Rain, management, who said no one was authorized to solicit or accept donations on the organization's behalf.

A legitimate business or charitable entity should be able to provide contact information to verify they are in fact authorized to solicit donations over the phone.
