Police: Men Arrested in DuPage Might be Linked to Local Robbery

Naperville police suspect the men have been involved in several other area robberies.

Two local men who police say might be connected to several armed robberies at pizza shops last year, including the St. Charles , were allegedly caught in the act Monday night.

The  had been watching the men, who are suspected of involvement in several other area robberies, when they were seen committing an armed robbery at Papa John’s Pizza, 1220 W. Ogden Ave., Naperville Police Sgt. Gregg Bell said in a news release. 

At about 10:15 p.m. Monday, police saw Cory M. Pates, 22, of the first block of Eastfield Drive in Montgomery, and Travis J. Gamble, 22, of the first block of Anna Maria Lane in Oswego, committing the armed robbery, Bell said.

The men attempted to flee the restaurant, but police said they were able to apprehend them after a brief foot chase.

Pates and Gamble were each charged with armed robbery, a Class X felony; aggravated robbery, a Class I felony; and resisting an officer, a Class A misdemeanor.

“Information had been developed that these individuals could be involved in these armed robberies,” Bell said in a phone interview. “This is still an ongoing investigation. By no means is it over.”

In November, Domino’s Pizza shops in  and Naperville were robbed, along with other shops in the western suburbs.  leading to an arrest. Bell said the investigation is ongoing and he couldn’t say for sure whether the men were involved in the Domino’s robberies. 

Along with Naperville, the Lisle, Plainfield, St. Charles, Yorkville and Oswego police departments were involved in the apprehension and arrest of Pates and Gamble.

The men were taken to the DuPage County Jail, Bell said.
