The Kane County Coroner's Office today will conduct an autopsy on the body of Aurora resident Raymond VanPelt, Batavia police announced Sunday.

VanPelt, 53, was pronounced dead at Delnor Hospital in Geneva on Christmas Eve after he was allegedly backed over at 10:24 a.m. Friday in the parking lot at 1200 N. Kirk Rd. on the city's east side. Some ALDI company offices and other facilities are located in Batavia.

Police said an initial investigation revealed that the driver of a semi-tractor was backing up a trailer to move it somewhere else and did not see VanPelt walking behind the trailer. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Sandwich, IL, accidentally backed over VanPelt with the vehicle, police said.
