Person Shot Twice by 'Airsoft Gun' at Quarry Pool

The victim ends up with two bleeding welts but refuses medical attention on July 15, according to reports.

Batavia police reports are sketchy, but someone was the victim of an airsoft gun assault at the Batavia Quarry pool a little more than a week ago.

According to reports, someone shot the subject twice with an “airsoft gun” July 15 in the north parking lot of Quarry Park Pool, 400 S. Water St. The report was filed at 2:55 p.m. July 15.

The subject had two bleeding welts but refused medical attention, reports said. The report did not say the age or gender of the victim.

According to Wikipedia, airsoft guns are replica firearms used that fire plastic pellets by way of compressed gas or electric and/or spring-driven pistons.

"These guns are designed to be non-lethal and to provide realistic replicas," Wikipedia says. "Depending on the mechanism driving the pellet, an airsoft gun can be operated manually or cycled by either compressed gas such as Green Gas (propane and silicone mix) or CO2, or by compressed air via a spring or an electric motor pulling a piston."

Some communities have talked about creating local ordinances to ban such replica weapons.

Back in May, juveniles with an air gun in a Batavia park were arrested for cannabis possession.
