Overnight Fire Destroys Master Cast in Batavia

15 departments in the area fought the blaze. Three firefighters hurt.

Firefighters overnight battled a blaze at the Master Cast Inc. foundry in Batavia, 106 S. Mallory Ave. Batavia Fire Chief Randy Deicke told NBC Chicago flames leapt from windows on the first floor and heavy smoke filled the building when crews arrived. Fifteen departments responded. The Aurora Beacon-News reports three firefighters were hurt.

"We expect the building to collapse — or at least one floor to collapse — at some time," Diecke said. The building dates back to 1930.

Master Cast makes aluminum castings.
