A Ford Focus crosses the center line for an unknown reason and crashes head on into a BMW SUV on Route 38 near Meredith Road.

The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal two car traffic crash that occurred Sunday afternoon on Route 38 west of Meredith Road.

The Sheriff's Office's initial investigation indicates that a 2012 Ford Focus was traveling east on Route 38 west of Meredith Road at around 12:30 p.m. when it, for an unknown reason, crossed over the center line and struck a 2007 BMW SUV that was traveling west on Route 38.

The driver, and sole occupant, of the Ford was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the BMW was flown from the scene to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. His injuries do not appear to be life threatening. The passenger of the BMW was transported by ambulance to Delnor Hospital in Geneva with non-life threatening injuries.

No tickets have been issued, and Kane County Sheriff’s detectives along with members of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.

Route 38 was closed between Meredith Rd and Watson Rd for approximately 4 hours while the crash was investigated.

Once the Sheriff’s Office will release the names of the drivers after officials are able to notify the next of kin.
