Batavia Man Accused of Robbery, Vehicle Invasion

This 46-year-old faces three charges in connection to a gas station incident. Here's what happened.

A 46-year-old Batavia man faces three charges in connection to an incident outside a gas station on Monday.

Jeffrey S. Greer, 46, of the first block of North Batavia Avenue, was charged with vehicular invasion, robbery and battery.

North Aurora police patrol officers responded to a disturbance involving Greer at about 8:40 a.m. Monday at Thornton's on the 400 block of South Lincolnway (Route 31).

Upon arrival, officers learned that Greer approached a vehicle occupied by two females and asked for money. One of the females, who was seated in the passenger seat, refused.

Greer then reached inside the vehicle and struck the passenger in the face and stomach area. He then took $13 in U.S. currency from inside the vehicle.

Greer then left the area. Officers located him near Provena Mercy Medical Center on Sullivan Road west of the gas station and took him into custody without incident.

The passenger who was struck did not require medical attention.

Charges and County Lockup

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office authorized the following charges against Greer:

  • Vehicular Invasion, a Class 1 felony
  • Robbery, a Class 2 felony
  • Battery, a Class A misdemeanor

Greer appeared at a hearing this morning and his bail was set at $70,000. Ten percent of that amount, or $7,000, must be posted in order for him to be released from the Kane County Jail.

If convicted of any Class 1 felony, Greer faces up to 15 years in prison, according to sentencing guidelines in the current state statute. If convicted of any Class 2 felony, Greer faces up to seven years in prison.
