Man Sent to Hospital After Motorcycle Crash in Batavia Thursday

A motorcycle and a small car collided on Route 31 near downtown Batavia, witnesses said. This is the second motorcycle crash in two days for the area.

One man was transported to a hospital after a motorcycle vs. car crash Thursday near downtown Batavia, police and witnesses said.

The crash occurred at about 7 p.m. Thursday on the 100 block of North Batavia Avenue (Route 31 in Batavia). Patrol officers and the responded to an initial call for a crash with injuries, according to .

A narrative of the crash was not available Thursday night from officials. Ray Marchand heard the crash impact from inside his home on Route 31.

“It sounded like a recycling bin spilling across the road,” Marchand told Batavia Patch. “I was watching TV and thought, ‘That didn’t sound normal.’ I went to look out the window, and I saw (the male motorcycle driver) stand up and then lay down.”

Batavia police and fire arrived on the scene shortly thereafter, Marchand said.

Marchand said a police officer at the scene told him that the man was transported as a precaution but he otherwise appeared fine.

The man’s motorcycle was towed away. Marchand said the female driver of the car in the crash was able to drive away after the scene was cleared by police.

The northbound lanes of Route 31 in Batavia were closed starting at the 100 block for about 35 minutes while emergency responders tended to the crash.

Officials could not be reached Thursday evening for more details on the crash. Batavia police and fire crews were on the scene of other calls throughout the night.

This is the second motorcycle crash for the Batavia area over a 36-hour period.  At 7 a.m. on Wednesday, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office responded to a in Geneva Township.
