McDonald's Drive-Through Confrontation Leads to Charges of Mob Action, Aggravated Assault

Two men face charges for parking-lot beating in St. Charles.

An Elburn man and a St. Charles man face aggravated assault and mob action charges after a confrontation that began in a fast-food drive-through lane ended with a beating in a restaurant parking lot across the street.

Patrick E. Hogan, 21, 1800 Spring Valley Drive, Elburn, and William L. Rawson, 21, of 1502 Avalon Court, are each charged with aggravated battery and mob action charges in relation to the April 17, 2013, incident, St. Charles police said.

According to police, Hogan and Rawson were involved in a confrontation on the morning of April 17. The incident began in the drive-through lane at  After the confrontation, one of the two men reportedly kicked the back of the victim’s truck, which was caught on videotape.

Police said the 40-year-old male victim left but pulled in across the street at Oberweis Dairy, 1790 W Main St., to check for damage to his truck. According to police, the victim saw the same two men from McDonald's running across the street in his direction.

The subjects approached him as the victim was kneeling next to his truck, and a physical altercation ensued. Police said the victim told officers he was struck multiple times and suffered injuries to his head, right arm, left knee and rib cage.

Police said that during the altercation, the victim was able to grab a cellphone from the pocket of one of his attackers, and the cellphone assisted police in identifying the subjects.

The victim then contacted his wife, who took him to Delnor Hospital in Geneva for treatment.
