Man Gets 24 Years in Prison for Child Sex Assault in North Aurora

The man's accuser was 5 years old at the time of the attacks, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

A 30-year-old Warrenville man was sentenced to more than two decades in prison for sex crimes in North Aurora against a child he knew.

Adrian Ramirez-Alcantar was sentenced Friday by Circuit Judge David R. Akemann to 24 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said.

Ramirez-Alcantar was convicted April 30 by Judge Akemann of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, each a Class X felony, and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.

During the summer of 2000, Ramirez-Alcantar had sexual contact with a girl multiple times at a residence on the east side of North Aurora, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said. Ramirez-Alcantar was staying with the family of the girl, who was 5 years old at the time.

Ramirez-Alcantar moved out of the house sometime later. The girl disclosed the incident more than 10 years later when she saw Ramirez-Alcantar for the first time in many years in West Chicago.

"The victim in this case deserves praise for the courage she showed in coming forward, and believing that she would receive justice even though a decade had passed since the crime took place," said Joe McMahon, Kane County State’s Attorney. "All victims of this type of crime should know that if they have the courage to tell their story, we will listen."

The accuser was at the sentencing hearing. As the hearing was about to start, Ramirez-Alcantar turned to the girl and threatened her, the State's Attorney's Office said. The statement was placed into the court record.

Jail Sentence

Ramirez-Alcantar's sentence breaks down as 10 years for each of the predatory charges and four years for the abuse charge. They are to be served consecutively.

Ramirez-Alcantar must serve at least 85 percent of the predatory sentence and is eligible for day-for-day credit on the abuse sentence, according to Illinois law. He was given credit for at least 548 days served in the Kane County Jail, where he was held until this week. Ramirez-Alcantar has since been transferred to an Illinois Department of Corrections facility, according to prison records.

McMahon thanked the West Chicago Police Department for its assistance in the investigation of Ramirez-Alcantar, as well as the North Aurora Police Department for its investigative work.

The case was prosecuted by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Debra Bree.
