4-Car Kirk Road Crash Injures 3 Drivers in Batavia Wednesday

One vehicle ended up sideways at the crash scene. Three people were taken to area hospitals. Here are more details and pictures.

Three drivers were taken to area hospitals with injuries on Wednesday after a four-vehicle crash on Kirk Road in Batavia, officials said.

The crash occurred on Kirk Road just south of Pine Street. and units were dispatched to the scene at 6:16 p.m., said Robert White, a Batavia Fire battalion chief.

Two of the three drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, which were badly damaged in the crash. Another driver was out of his or her vehicle at the time the fire crews arrived, according to a Batavia Fire press release.

Two drivers were sent to Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and a third driver was sent to Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, White said. Their injuries were identified as non-life threatening, the press release said.

Three vehicles in all were towed. The female driver of a fourth vehicle in the crash signed a refusal for treatment, White said. Her vehicle appeared to have minimal damage.

All lanes of Kirk Road were shut down near the crash scene until about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, White said. Debris from the cars was strewn all over Kirk Road in the minutes following the crash.

A narrative of the crash was not available Wednesday night from officials. The city of residence for each driver in the crash was also not available, as most of them had to be transported from the scene by ambulance.

The crash only involved drivers—there were no passengers in any of the cars, police said.

Vehicle Damage

A Patch reader provided photos from the crash scene that depict the following:

  • A pickup truck lay sideways on the right northbound lane of Kirk Road. Fire crews appeared to be extricating the driver.
  • On the other side, on the grass west of the southbound lanes, a Toyota Corolla showed extensive damage on the entire drivers side of the car.
  • Another car of unknown make and model is visible near the median of Kirk, with front-end damage.

Emergency responders had the scene under control by 7 p.m. Wednesday, the press release said.

There was also an incident further south in Aurora on this road that was clearing up at the same time. There was a gas leak Wednesday afternoon on Farnsworth Avenue south of Bilter Road and north of Molitor Road, Patch readers reported. The I-88 on-and-off ramps are between these roads.

There were a total of 24 personnel at the crash scene. The first unit arrived at 6:18 p.m. Wednesday and the last unit (ambulance) was cleared from a hospital at 8:13 p.m., the press release said.
