UPDATE: Batavia Stabbing Suspect Held on $250,000 Bail

A Chicago man stabbed his co-worker in Batavia on Monday, police said. Here are some new details about the incident.

A Kane County Judge on Tuesday set bail for a 54-year-old Chicago man following a stabbing on Batavia's east side on Monday.

Calvin M. Hayes is being held on $250,000 bail, according to Kane County court records. He appeared in bond court Tuesday.

To apply for bond, Hayes or someone else needs to pay 10 percent of the bail, or $25,000.

Hayes is morning after their shifts ended. The incident occurred at a parking lot outside the Suncast Corporation, 701 N. Kirk Road, according to

A knife was involved in the stabbing, said Glenn Autenrieth, Batavia deputy police chief. The stabbing occurred after a verbal argument turned physical, but Autenrieth could not reveal what they were arguing about.

Neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected in either Hayes or his co-worker at the time of the incident, Autenrieth said.

The co-worker was stabbed in the neck, police said. He was treated and released from an area hospital on Monday.

Hayes faces one first-degree attempted murder charge and two aggravated battery charges. The next court date for this case is May 30.
