Home Invasion, Shooting Reported in North Aurora Friday Afternoon

Two men ran off with a safe and shot a dog. Here are the suspect descriptions.

Police are in search of two men who forced their way into a North Aurora duplex Friday afternoon, held the residents at gunpoint and shot a dog three times.

The home invasion occurred at a duplex in the 200 block of Laurel Drive on the village's east side, according to a police statement. North Aurora police officers were dispatched to the block at about 1:21 p.m. for a dog that had been shot.

"Upon arrival, officers discovered that a home invasion had taken place," the statement said. "Officers learned that the residents heard a knock at the door and, before they could open the door, the suspects kicked the door open and displayed a gun."

One suspect, identified by police as Suspect #1, held the residents at gunpoint while the second suspect went upstairs. The residents’ dog approached the suspect, who shot it three times, the statement said.

Suspect #2 came downstairs with a safe and both suspects fled through the front door with the safe. It was unknown if they fled on foot or in a vehicle.

The entire home invasion lasted only a few minutes, said Scott Buziecki, North Aurora deputy police chief. The suspects did not have the residents open the safe, he said.

The residents transported their dog to a veterinarian for medical attention. The dog’s condition is unknown. The dog appears to be some type of bulldog, Buziecki said.
