Geneva Resident Calls Cops After Seeing Child Slapped at Portillo's

Child's mother admits to lightly slapping the child but tells police its was the complainant who became confrontational and threatening.

There's a series of reports on ABC's Primetime television show called, "What Would You Do?" and it usually involves hidden cameras and awkward situations in which bystanders have an opportunity to intervene — or not.

That's kind of the situation a Genevan responded to earlier this week after seeing a 1-year-old slapped by a parent. Whether or not it was the right thing to do is for you to decide.

Here's what happened, according to the Batavia Police Department “Daily Report Synopsis, Media/Public Version.”

Batavia police reported to a disturbance at Portillo’s, 531 N. Randall Road, according to a report filed at 6:56 p.m. Nov. 1. The complainant, from Geneva, reported seeing a female subject from Aurora slap her 1-year-old child in the face.

The subject admitted to “lightly” slapping her daughter after the child bit her grandmother, reports said.

The child's mother said the complainant became very confrontational and threatening. No injuries to the child were noted, and all subjects left without further incident.
