Frozen Sprinkler Head Activates Fire Alarm at Batavia High School

Alarm gets tripped twice — once due to the frozen sprinkler and again during the re-set. Students are outside for less than five minutes for each evacuation.

The fire alarm at Batavia High School was activated Friday due to a frozen sprinkler head in an abandoned bathroom, school officials said.

Students were outside for about five minutes while the Fire Department determined the cause. In an attempt to reset the fire alarm, it was tripped again, causing a second evacuation. The students were outside for less than five minutes during the second evacuation.

In addition, some staff members reported an odor.  The Fire Department tested all areas and determined the air quality was safe for all, school officials said.
