Tri-Cities DUI Arrests, March 3

Here's this week's roundup of local drunken driving arrests.

BATAVIA

Feb. 13: Sam L. Erwin, 53, of the 1200 block of Fagan Road, Batavia, was cited for the following:

  • DUI: Alcohol
  • Leaving the scene of a vehicle crash—property damage
  • Improper right turn

Two drivers, including Erwin, were involved in the crash. The crash occurred at 6:17 p.m. at Towne Avenue and Millview Drive, according to a police report. Erwin was arrested shortly thereafter on Halladay Drive, about two-tenths of a mile from the crash.

Erwin posted $150 and his driver's license for bond. He was given a March 20 court date.

GENEVA

Feb. 11: Geneva police arrested Manuel Aceves, 44, of Aurora on charges of driving under the influence, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and having no valid driver’s license after a traffic stop at around 5:45 p.m. in the 2200 block of South Randall Road, reports said. Aceves also was cited for improper lane usage. He has a court date of March 13 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

Feb. 9: Geneva police arrested Sara Tobler, 32, of Chicago on charges of driving under the influence and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident at around 10:33 p.m. after a traffic stop in the 100 block of West State Street, reports said. Tobler posted $100 bond and has a court date of March 6 at the Kane County Judicial Center, reports said.

ST. CHARLES

Feb. 24: Gary Glen Chitwood, 57, of the 32W600 block of North Avenue, West Chicago, was charged at 12:28 a.m. on the 3700 block of East Main Street with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08, disobeying a traffic control device, improper lane use and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Police said his blood-alcohol content registered .283. He posted his driver’s license and $300 cash bond and was released pending a March 21 court appearance.

Feb. 23: Daniel P. Schlegel, 33, of the 1700 block of North 4101 Road, Leland, was charged at 11:47 p.m. on the 500 block of West Main Street with DUI, DUI with a blood-alcohol content greater than .08, and speeding — 51 in a 30 mph zone. Police said his blood-alcohol content registered .179. He posted his driver’s license and was released on his own recognizance pending an April 4 court appearance.
