1 Teen Dead, 1 Injured After Car Crash Sunday in NW Kane County
The driver and front-seat passenger fled the crash on foot, police said. The two backseat passengers had to be extricated from the vehicle. Here are the details.
A 17-year-old Elgin teen is dead after a one-car crash this weekend in northwest Kane County, police said.
Lawrence Echols was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash west of the town of Burlington early Sunday, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office. Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene at 12:50 a.m.
Echols was riding in the back seat of a 2007 Lincoln MKZ sedan. Echols and another backseat passenger, Shadontre Smith of South Elgin, had to be extricated from the vehicle.

The sedan was traveling west on Plank Road between Engel and West County Line roads at what appeared to be a high rate of speed, the Sheriff's Office said.
The sedan crossed the center line and eventually left the roadway on the south side of Plank Road, police said. The vehicle rolled several times and struck a tree. Smith, 19, was flown by helicopter to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, lL, with non-life threatening injuries.

Plank Road was closed between Engel and West County Line roads until about 11 a.m. Sunday.
Driver and Passenger Flee
The driver of the sedan, Shannon Hill, 17, of Elgin fled the crash scene on foot, the Sheriff's Office said. Hill was accompanied by the front-seat passenger, Jamiah Harrison, 17, of Elgin.
Six different police agencies conducted a search for Hill and Harrison. At about 10:30 a.m. Sunday, deputies were advised that the two were located at Sherman Hospital in Elgin.
Hill and Harrison stated that they walked to the hospital after the crash.
As of Sunday evening, no charges have been filed in the incident. The crash remains under investigation by the Kane County Sheriff’s Office and the county Accident Reconstruction Team.
