A Kane County Forest Preserve District ranger was stationed south of Fabyan Bridge during Monday afternoon's closure. He was later joined by a red Batavia Emergency Services vehicle.

Emergency vehicles came and went into the restricted area. Patch saw a Dive-Rescue Unit from the St. Charles Fire Department enter the area, and at least one Batavia squad car leave the area.

Joggers and bicyclists were being turned away from the restricted area all afternoon before it was reopened. One of them was Chuck Nustra of North Aurora.

Nustra and his family moved to the area from Highland Park. He said an incident such as the one on Monday could happen anywhere.

"It seems to be pretty safe here," Nustra said to Patch after he was turned away from the trail Monday afternoon.

Nustra said he rides the Fox River daily and has done so for the past two months. He said the Batavia portion of the trail west of the river is one of the busiest traffic areas for joggers and bikers.

Monday was the first time Nustra had ever been turned away from the trail.

"It could be anything," he said of the situation on the other side of the police barricade.

Patch will provide updates when more information is available.
