Batavia Storm Damage Monday Includes Fallen Trees, Power Outages

Authorities are reporting a downed power line on the west side, residents are reported that southbound Route 31 is blocked near the Campana Building.

A severe storm system is causing extensive damage across Batavia this Monday morning.

A tree reportedly went down near the Campana building, blocking one southbound lane of Route 31. Avoid this area if possible.

A power line is down somewhere on Van Buren on the city's west side, according to scanner reports. Residents are reporting no power in the area around H.C. Storm Elementary School.

Other residents are reporting damaged trees in their backyard.

Batavia and northern Kane County are under a severe thunderstorm watch until noon. The area was under a severe warning until 8 a.m.

As of 7:56 a.m., strong winds to 55 mph continue along and behind a line of thunderstorms extending from Spring Grove to East Dundee to St. Charles to Sugar Grove. The line is moving east at 70 mph, according to National Weather Service.

Strong winds could return again this morning. Stay indoors until the storm passes.
