UPDATE: Batavia Woman Faces Charges Related To Stabbing Incident

The 38-year-old received three felony and three misdemeanor charges. Here are the details.

UPDATE: A sister of the woman accused in this story has come forward with an account of what happened during the Nov. 4 disturbance.

A 38-year-old Batavia woman was charged Monday in connection to a Sunday disturbance that involved multiple stab wounds.

Diane J. Romano, of the first block of North Van Nortwick Avenue, received the following charges:

  • Aggravated domestic battery (class 2 felony)
  • Aggravated battery - great bodily harm (class 3 felony)
  • Aggravated battery - deadly weapon (class 3 felony)
  • Domestic battery which causes bodily harm (class A misdemeanor)
  • Domestic battery - making physical contact (class A misdemeanor)
  • Unlawful use of weapons - possessing a knife with intent to use (class A misdemeanor)

The charges result from what Batavia Police describe as a family disturbance involving two men and Romano. Officers were called to a home on the first block of North Van Nortwick Avenue at 2:34 a.m. Sunday. They .

If convicted, Romano could receive up to seven years in prison for a class 2 felony, up to five years in prison for each of the class 3 felonies and up to one year each for each of the three misdemeanor charges.

Romano is currently being held at the Kane County Jail and was scheduled for a bond call sometime Monday.

The Investigation Continues

Police have been called to Romano's home in the past, but the department is only investigating Sunday's incident at this time, Det. Kevin Bretz told Batavia Patch.

Batavia Police completed several interviews, and any further action will be done through the Kane County State's Attorney's Office.

"I can tell you that there will be (follow up) to some degree, yes," Bretz said. "Any investigation will continue until the State’s Attorney is satisfied."
