Batavia Police: Shooting Threat, Burglary, Spat Between Brothers

SATURDAY, SEPT. 1

Dumpster Fire

Police provided traffic control for the at the scene of a dumpster fire on the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle. Two dumpsters were damaged with an estimated cost of $3,500, according to a police report.

Verbal Dispute, Weapon Removed

A man's brother threatened to physically assault him at a home on Batavia's west side, according to reports. The brother left the residence prior to the reporting officer's arrival before 6:50 p.m. The family is concerned that the brother is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, according to a police report.

The brother does have a weapon in the house but does not have a current firearm owner's identification program card. The weapon was removed into evidence for safekeeping. The brother was contacted and advised that he would need to obtain a valid card. A referral to Victim Services was made.

Keep the Peace

A man anticipated a confrontation and requested an officer present when he returned to his east-side home with his son at 6:50 p.m. The man expected an argument with his wife over a planned trip, according to a police report. The officer accompanied the man to his home, without incident. The involved parties were referred to their respective attorneys.

Traffic Arrest

Dean E. Colias, 21, of the 1200 block of Crestview Drive, was cited for the following:

• Driving while license suspended
• Operating a vehicle with expired registration displayed
• Operating an uninsured vehicle

An officer made the arrest at 4:03 p.m. at Fabyan Parkway and Randall Road. Colias posted $150 bond and was released with an Oct. 9 court date.

Grade-School Cell Phone Theft

A Batavia female reported at 5:21 p.m. that someone took her Verizon Android cell phone at Alice Gustafson School, 905 Carlisle Road. The phone is valued at $100.

E-mail Hacked, User Locked Out

A man reported at 11:34 a.m. that someone hacked into his e-mail, changed his password and locked him out of his account. A mass e-mail was sent by the offenders stating the man was stranded in the Philippines and needed money.

Resident Threatens to Shoot

An officer responded to the 600 block of Madison Street at 10:02 a.m. and met with a male resident who called Capitol One Bank in Virginia and "threatened to shoot up one of their banks," according to a police report. The resident admitted to making threats but denied having any intention to follow through on them. Corporate Security will determine if charges will be filed, otherwise no charges were filed at the time of the report.

Residential Burglary

Residents reported at 5:02 a.m. that someone entered their residence on the 800 block of Hanson Street and took a pack of cigarettes, a bicycle lock and a BMX bike. The loss was estimated at $93.
