Updated: Batavia Man Arrested For DUI, Other Offenses in Naperville

The following information was supplied by area police departments. It does not indicate a conviction.

The following police incidents occurred on March 18-19, and involve Batavia residents or took place in Batavia. Here they are in chronological order:

3 a.m.—DUI

A 38-year-old Batavia man had a run-in with police on the northwest side of Naperville.

Jaime Lopez Medina, of the 1000 block of Lorlyn Circle in Batavia, was arrested near East I-88 and North Route 59, police said. He had an oustanding warrant for failure to appear on another issue.

According to a police report, he was charged with the following: 

  • Operating an uninsured vehicle
  • Failure to give a signal
  • Illegal lane use
  • No driver’s license
  • Two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol

Medina's bail was $3,000.

3:30 a.m.—Mischief

A man reported that his Batavia west-side residence was egged.

The man said this is the third time this has happened. The report did not specify over what period of time the eggings occurred.

The offender or offenders are unknown. The incidents occurred on the 1400 block of Lundberg Avenue, according to a police report.

11:43 a.m.—Burglary to Motor Vehicle

A car burglary was reported on the city's south side.

The vehicle was unlocked and parked in a driveway on the 400 block of Grove Court, according to a police report. The incident occurred between 8 p.m. March 17 and 9 a.m. March 18.

A black Coach-brand wallet valued at $300 was taken from the vehicle. The wallet had $60 of U.S. currency, miscellaneous credit cards and a driver's license.

11:52 a.m.—Car Crash: Property Damage

A car crash was reported at West Fabyan Parkway and Viking Drive on the city's west side.

A driver from St. Charles was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, according to a police report.

The Fabyan-Viking intersection was also the scene of another crash just days before. At 12:24 p.m. on March 15, a driver from Batavia was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Someone was transported to Delnor Hospital and three other cars were involved.

12:24 p.m.—Car Crash: Property Damage

A car crash was reported at North Batavia Avenue and West Fabyan Parkway on Batavia's north side.

A driver from Geneva was cited for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

3:40 p.m.—Credit Card Fraud

Two unauthorized Internet transactions were made using a debit card from someone on the west side.

The transaction amounts were $108.76. The incident occurred on March 13, according to a police report.

The responding officer advised the victim to file a complaint with the Internet Crime Complaint Center.

6:43 p.m.—Disturbance

Two subjects were involved in a verbal dispute on the east side.

Minor scratches were noted on one subject. The incident occurred on the 300 block of South River Street, according to a police report.

One subject left prior to the responding officer's arrival.

March 19

8:51 a.m.—Dumping

Someone dumped garbage into and next to a dumpster of a business on Batavia's east side.

The incident occurred between 5 p.m. March 16 and 8 a.m. March 19 on the 1300 block of Paramount Parkway, according to a police report.

9:06 a.m.—Truancy

An officer responded to the east side for an incident of truancy.

A juvenile was refusing to get up and go to school, according to a police report. The officer transported the student to Batavia High School.

10:53 a.m.—Domestic Battery (Desk Report)

An incident of domestic battery was reported at a business on the 1300 block of South River Street.

This report had to be completed at a later time.

11:50 a.m.—Citizen Assist (Desk Report)

An officer assisted a citizen with the disposal of ammunition.

3:58 p.m.—Car Crash: Property Damage

A car crash was reported at North Batavia Avenue and West Fabyan Parkway on Batavia's north side.

A driver from Batavia was cited for failure to yield while turning left.

5:22 p.m.—Car Crash: Property Damage

A car crash was reported in the Batavia Public Library parking lot, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

No citations were issued.

7:18 p.m.—Criminal Damage to Property

A property was damaged in the Batavia Highlands neighborhood on the east side.

Vinyl siding was pulled away from a structure and slid away from the house, and there was also damage to a garage. The incident occurred on the 400 block of Thoria Road, according to a police report.

The value of the damage was unknown at the time of the report.

9:33 p.m.—Domestic Trouble

A verbal dispute was reported on the 300 block of South Jackson Street on Batavia's west side.

Two subjects were involved, and one of them left prior to the officer's arrival, according to a police report.

March 20

12:30 a.m.—Traffic Arrest

A Batavia man is headed to court after an incident on the east side.

Jose Zarate, of the 1300 block of East Wilson Street, was cited for the following:

  • No valid driver's license
  • Operating an uninsured vehicle
  • Speeding

The incident occurred on the 1500 block of South Kirk Road, according to a police report.

Zarate posted $150 bond and was released with a court date of April 16.
