Wednesday's Batavia House Fire Still Under Investigation

The Wednesday fire caused about $25,000 in damage to a home on Batavia's west side.

Batavia fire officials are still investigating a Wednesday fire which caused about $25,000 in damage to a home on Batavia's west side.

Batavia fire crews responded at about 2 p.m. to 3 S. Harrison St. after getting a call from a motorist who saw smoke coming from the second floor windows and roof, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release.

Officials said the fire caused extensive damage to a second-floor bedroom where the fire originated, and smoke and heat damage to the second floor. No one was injured in the incident.

There was an estimated $20,000 in structural damages and an estimated $5,000 in content damages, the fire department said. The firefighters performed salvage work to limit water and smoke damage.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation. The fire was contained to the second-floor bedroom.

The first fire crews to arrive began an attack on the fire and searched the house for victims. The fire department did not find anyone in the home at the time of the fire.

The Batavia Fire Department would like to thank neighbors near the home for their support and the cold water that was provided.

There were a total of 35 personnel at the scene.

Batavia officials were assisted by crews from Elburn, Geneva, North Aurora and St. Charles.
