Batavia Homecoming Parade Kicks Off Sept. 12, West Wilson St. to Be Closed

Be sure to stake out a good spot for candy and fun as the high-school parades through the downtown. Here are the affected intersections and the suggested detour.

Homecoming Week at continues today with the annual parade through the downtown area.

Parade units will begin staging at 5 p.m. on South Shumway Avenue at First Street. This event will require West Wilson Street to be temporarily closed at varying intervals throughout the parade route, said.

Student Drop Off: Students should be dropped off at the Batavia Enterprises parking lot at the First Street entrance and walk to their staging area.

Transportation: Shuttles will be available for parade participants starting at 4:30 p.m. Shuttles will pick parade participants up at the Batavia High School Wilson Street parking lot.

The parade will start at 5:30 p.m. and travel north on Shumway to Wilson Street, then west on Wilson with the parade ending in the student parking lot at Batavia High School.

This event will have impact on vehicle traffic on all roads that intersect with West Wilson Street from Shumway Avenue/Island Avenue to the student parking lot. The major roads affected are:

  • Wilson Street and Batavia Avenue (Rt. 31)
  • Wilson and Van Nortwick Avenue
  • Wilson and Western Avenue

Traffic Detour

The following detour routes should be used to avoid Rt. 31 and Wilson Street:

Vehicles from the north should use McKee Street and vehicles from south of Wilson Street should use Main Street.

Westbound vehicle traffic crossing the Wilson Street bridge will be routed to north Island Avenue to Houston Street, then onto northbound North Batavia Avenue (Rt. 31).

Please plan your route accordingly during this event to minimize any further travel delays to your destination. The parade will last about 60 to 90 minutes.
