Batavia Blotter: Toilet Paper on Fire, Forgery Arrest, Illegal Dumping and More

The following information was supplied by the Batavia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

Here is a roundup of miscellaneous violations in the Batavia police blotter from May 23 to June 9.

Motor Vehicle Burglary—Someone pried open the fuel door and damaged the driver and passenger locks on a Toyota pickup in the 1300 block of Paramount Parkway around 2:43 p.m. June 7, reports said. Keys to the doors would not work, but nothing was missing from the vehicle’s interior. About $15 worth of gas was taken, reports said.

Domestic Battery—Batavia police arrested David Schuler, 52, of 830 Cleveland Ave., Batavia on charges of domestic battery which causes bodily harm and domestic battery physical contact around 3:49 p.m. June 9. He was transported to Kane County Jail and was awaiting bond call at the time of the report.

Intoxicated Subject—A resident of Batavia was found lying on the roadway in the 100 block of North River Street, according to a report filed around 11:13 p.m. June 7. Reports said the man was intoxicated and had fallen off his bike. He was transported to Delnor Hospital.

Assist Paramedics—Batavia police assisted paramedics when a Batavia male fell off his bike on the bike trail in the 500 block of North Batavia Avenue around 6:04 p.m. June 8, reports said. The person was transported to Delnor Hospital.

Found Property—Someone found a cellphone in the middle of the road at the intersection of Ridgelawn Trail and Hart Road around 11:34 p.m. June 7, reports said. Police were unable to identify the owner. The phone is an older model iPhone with white speckled back.

Intoxicated Subject—Three people were involved in an incident involving one or more intoxicated subjects in the 300 block of North Jefferson Street aournd 5:08 p.m. June 2.

Intoxicated Subject—Batavia police responded to a report of an intoxicated person who called the complainant for a ride around 4:42 a.m. June 1. The complainant found the victim standing in a yard vomiting and took her to a residence. The victim told police she believes someone slipped something in her drink. She was transported to Delnor Hospital by Batavia medics.

Curfew Violation—Police cited a juvenile who was out after curfew around 12:37 a.m. June 1 in the area of Water Street and Union Avenue. She was taken home and released to her mother.

Illegal Dumping—Police issued an O-Ticket to an unnamed business for dumping water from a business van into the public storm sewer in the 2000 block of Kane Lane, according to a report filed around 12:33 p.m. May 31.

Credit Card Fraud—Someone made an unauthorized debit card transaction totaling $417.84 around 3:39 p.m. May 28 in the 600 block of South Jackson Street, reports said. 

Credit Card Fraud—A victim who resides in the 300 block of North Jefferson St., reported the loss and unlawful use of her credit card by unknown offenders around 11:01 a.m. May 25 at the Batavia Police Department. The card had been used at 12 locations for a total of $267.29 in unauthorized purchases.

Credit Card Fraud—The victim, who resides in the 0-99 block of Johnson Woods Drive, reported unauthorized charges n his Visa card in amounts totaling $617. The report was filed around 8:44 p.m. May 24.

Assault—Police arrested Randall Hallberg, 48, of Batavia on charges of assault around 3:16 p.m. May 20 in the 200 block of North Washington Avenue, reports said. He posted $120 and has a court date of June 11.

Harassing Phone Calls—A complaint who lives in the 800 block of Pottawatomie Trail, reported May 25  that her daughter had been receiving harassing phone calls from the offender. A report was filed with DCFS, and the offender was directed to have no further contact with the victim. The complainant reported around 7:47 p.m. May 24 at the same address seeing a vehicle in front of the home. It is believed to be the same vehicle as mentioned in another stalking incident reported May 23.

Dog Bite—A victim was bitten by a small, Yorkshire Terrier at K & L Liquors, 1351 Wind Energy Pass, according to a report filed around 5 p.m. May 25. A bite report was forwarded to Kane County Animal Control. 

Arson—Someone set a roll of toilet paper in one of the portable bathrooms at Memorial Park, 601 Illinois Avenue, reports said. The report was filed around 6:05 p.m. May 25. No damage was done to the facility. The area was searched with negative results.

Found Property—Someone found a cell phone at the Batavia Skate Park, 400 block of South River Street around 8:13 p.m. May 24. 

Identity Theft—A person’s social security number was used to open accounts, according to a report filed around 4:59 p.m. May 23 in the 300 block of North Van Vuren Street.

Warrant Arrests

Oswego Man Arrested—Police arrested Anthony Schroeder, 28, of Oswego on a Boone County warrant in the Wicks parking lot, 165 North Randall Road around 10:20 p.m. May 30, reports said. Schroeder posted $300 bond and has a court date of June 14. 

Warrant for Forgery—Batavia police arrested John C. Marstellar, 45, of Chicago Ridge on warrants of failure to appear, forgery, issuance and delivery of documents around 9:07 a.m. May 29, reports said. He was unable to post 10 percent of his $15,000 bond and was transported to the Kane County Jail.

Warrant for Retail Theft—Batavia police responded to the Police Department to assist Ebony Stanford-Trotter, 18, of Batavia, and determined that she was wanted on a warrant out of Aurora for retail theft. Stanford-Trotter posted $300 bond and was released with a court date of June 12.

Warrant for Retail Theft—Police arrested John Vuscko, 56, of Batavia on a warrant for failure to appear, retail theft and disposing of merchandise under $300. Around 8:40 a.m. May 20 in the 300 block of South Lincolnway Road, reports said. He was unable to post bond and was transported to Kane County Jail.
