Batavia Blotter: Rotolo Student's 'One-Hitter' Turns Out to Be Tobacco

The following information was supplied by the Batavia Police Department. Where arrests or charges are mentioned, it does not indicate a conviction.

The following is a roundup of Batavia police reports from the week prior to Nov. 25 along with some stragglers from the previous week.

Tobaccy, Not Wacky

An employee of Rotolo Middle School, 1501 S. Raddant Road, reported that a 13-year-old male juvenile was in possession of a “one hitter” and a brown leafy substance. Examination by police indicated the substance was tobacco, not cannabis. “No charges pursued at this time,” said a report filed at 3:30 p.m. Nov. 22.

Sex Offender Registration

Thomas M. Brauer, 31, of West Chicago, completed a final registration with Batavia before going to West Chicago to register as a sex offender, according to a report filed at 4:13 p.m. at the Batavia Police Department.

Fight Reported

A fight was reported at Batavia High School, 1201 Main St., at 12:53 p.m. Nov. 18. The report was incomplete and no additional information was available.

 

Can You Hear Me Now?

 

A complainant who resides in the 2000 block of Swan Lane told police that an unknown offender opened a Verizon account in his name, and he received a bill in the amount of $498.57. The report was filed at 5:39 p.m. Nov. 22 at the Batavia Police Department.

 

Warrant Services

 

  • Batavia police arrested Ashley Watson, 28, of Geneva on charges of improper lane usage and a warrant for failure to appear in Bureau County, according to a report filed at 1:05 a.m. Nov. 17. She posted bond and has a court date of Dec. 20 in Bureau County.
  • Batavia police arrested Steven Cash, 27, of Batavia for failure to appear on a Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office warrant for a traffic violation. Cash posted $300 and was transported to the Kane County Jail awaiting bond call at the time of the report.

 

Criminal Damage to Stop Sign 

A stop sign at South Prairie Street and Pine Street was blown over by high winds, according to a report filed at 3:49 p.m. Nov. 17. A city of Batavia damage report was completed.

 

Deceptive Practices

A complainant told police that two employees of the Golden Coral, 2030 Main St., were fired for deceptive practices after a check was written out of an unauthorized account, according to a report filed at 1:38 p.m. Nov. 16. “No complaints were signed at this time,” the report said.

 

40 MPH Above the Limit 

Batavia police arrested Andrew Ramirez, 18, of West Chicago on charges of driving 40 mph or more above the speed limit and driving with a suspended or revoked license, according to a report filed at 9:56 p.m. Nov. 15. Ramirez posted $200 bond and has a court date of Dec. 10.

 

CDTP, Not Burglary 

A burglary was reported in the 700 block of South Batavia Avenue, according to a report at 2:08 p.m. Nov. 14, but the report should be classified as Criminal Damage to Property/ Criminal Trespass to Property," Sgt. Shawn Mazza said. "The offender(s) made access into a vacant home on this block by forcing entry to  a door on the residence," he said. "There was nothing taken from the interior nor were there any further signs of damage on the interior. The motive for damaging the door and entering the unoccupied home is unknown."
