The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Friday morning crash that killed an Aurora man on Deerpath Road south of Moose Road in rural Batavia Township.

Christopher Saumell, 27, of the 2400 block of Boxwood Lane, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at Mercy Center Hospital in Aurora, where he was transported after the crash, which occurred about 8:15 a.m., according to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office.

The Sheriff’s Office said the initial investigation indicates Saumell was northbound in a 2000 Jeep Cherokee on Deerpath Road when for an unknown reason the vehicle drove onto the east shoulder of Deerpath, moved back across the roadway and struck a tree on the west side of the road. No other vehicles were involved, authorities said. The cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
