North Aurora Man In Police Standoff Taken Into Custody Tuesday

Detectives recovered a handgun and ammunition from the home where the standoff began. No one was reported injured in the incident.

A 24-year-old North Aurora man was expected in bond court this morning after allegedly discharging a firearm recklessly, police said.

Charles Treadwell, of the 200 block of Linn Ct., North Aurora, was charged with three different counts after a standoff with police Tuesday afternoon, according to the North Aurora Police Department.

Officers were originally dispatched to Treadwell’s residence at 3:30 p.m. for a reported domestic dispute.

While enroute, the officers received a dispatch that a shot had been fired in the residence, according to a press release.

Police found a female and three children already outside the residence, while Treadwell was inside. North Aurora and Aurora police officers set up a perimeter and evacuated nearby townhomes for residents’ safety.

Officers called Treadwell while he was inside the residence. At 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, he voluntarily came out of the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

The perimeter was released at 5:37 p.m. and residents were allowed to go back to their homes.

Detectives recovered a handgun and ammunition from the residence, the release said. Treadwell is charged with the following:

  • One count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm (Class 4 Felony)
  • One count of Possession of Firearm without FOID card (Class A Misdemeanor)
  • One count of Possession of Firearm Ammunition without FOID card (Class A Misdemeanor)

Treadwell remained at the Aurora Police Department Tuesday. He was scheduled to attend a bond hearing at the Aurora Branch Court, 1200 E. Indian Trail, Aurora on Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 8:00 a.m. 

Treadwell is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
