Animal Stories: Real Encounters From Batavia and Geneva Police Reports

An opossum and several dogs are the heroes and villains in these animal stories.

Batavia and Geneva police reports had a number of animal-related tales recently, so we combined them into one article. Some of the stories are sad, some serious, some have happy endings.

The Geneva item at the end is serious because it involved an accident with injuries, but it's interesting that the first driver in this tangential animal story is from, you guessed it, Paw Paw.

Student Bitten Or Scratched

Two black labs were chasing students on the school property, reports said. The victim’s mother was contacted and will have the student seen by a doctor. The owner of the two dogs was issued ordinance citations for “viscous/dangerous dog” and two additional citations for two "dogs at large," reports said.

Police Take Care of Dog After Accident

The front of a Ford Focus driven by John Vought, 46, of Paw Paw collided with the rear of a Hyundai Veracruz driven by Dorothy Dose, 66, of Elgin around 5:12 p.m. Sept. 20 in the 2000 block of South Kirk Road about 250 feet north of East Fabyan Parkway, reports said.

Vought told police he mistakenly believed that Dose’s Veracruz started to move and accelerate and rear-ended the vehicle.

Dose and her passenger, Cathy Sim, 59, of Elgin were taken to Delnor Hospital by Medic 52, complaining of neck pains.

Dose’s vehicle was legally parked at the Country House, 2095 Kirk Road, after police obtained her permission to do so, and a dog in her vehicle was transported to the Geneva Police Department as a courtesy until the driver and her passenger were released from the hospital.
