ALDI Warehouse Fire Ends in $3,000 Damages Early Saturday

The Batavia Fire Department reported to the scene at about 12:30 a.m. Saturday. Here's what happened.

A fire caused some damage early this morning at the ALDI Warehouse in Batavia, officials said.

The fire appears to have started in a work area on a bench at the warehouse, located at 1200 N. Kirk Road, according to a Batavia Fire Department press release. Firemen were dispatched to the scene at 12:31 a.m.

Fire crews initially did not know where the fire was. Batavia's Engine #1 crew entered the warehouse building to check a panel and investigate.

Once inside, the Engine #1 crew reported smoke in the building. The alarm was upgraded to a full still and then a general alarm after the crew reported a fire in the forklift charging room.

Batavia Fire's Engine #2 and Truck #1 crews joined Engine #1 to fight the fire. They advanced a 2.5-inch hose attack line with a standpipe pack about 300 ft. into the building. An Engine #2 engineer secured a positive water supply.

The fire was reported under control at 12:48 a.m., the release said.

There was an estimated $3,000 in damages to contents inside the warehouse, according to the Fire Department. Crews worked to ventilate a significant amount of smoke from the building.

"The fire was not large enough to activate the suppression system, but did activate multiple smoke detectors," the release said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No one was injured in the incident.
