Friends Remember Lynlee Gilbert As A Great Person

Almost 24 hours after a car crash that took her life, Lyn Gilbert is remembered by friends with a makeshift memorial at the crash site.

As Alex Macias stood at the scene of Monday night's car crash, now marked with flowers and a cross bearing a name, he began to talk about his friend Lynlee Gilbert.

Gilbert, 17, in unincorporated Blackberry Township near Elburn. Sarah Ginter, 18, was a passenger and remains in critical condition at Delnor Hospital.

Macias met Lynlee, or Lyn, about five years ago and said despite grievances at times, she remained a friend to him.

"(Gilbert) didn't want to lose anybody as a friend—she kept you around," Macias said on Tuesday at the scene.

Macias said he got a phone call Tuesday morning with the sad news. He said she was a very safe driver and wouldn't drive until seat belts were on.

Macias described Gilbert as as a great person.

The car Lyn was driving veered off northbound Green Road, crossing the southbound lane and hitting a tree. Tire marks are visible on the street, and deep ruts can be seen in the grassy roadside. Both girls are seniors at .

Police are investigating a possible cause of the accident.
